PAINTING is one way I know of to be ‘ in the moment ‘. And the finished PAINTINGS are a reminder of that exquisite time of ‘ creating and being in the moment’. Starting a painting is always somewhat scary, ending is somewhat sad, but being in the middle, in the moment, is sheer joy! As Dan Millman expounds —- ” there are no ordinary moments”!
I have been blessed also to know how to be in the moment while in Jerusalem of Gold, just being, just walking, just seeing, just hearing, just being alive…..
I continue to rely heavily on NATURE in all of my work whether REALISTIC or ABSTRACT:
MOUNTAINS figure strongly in my work as every MOUNTAIN is a DOORWAY to the HEAVENS.
DOORS now also figure strongly in my work, as I recall that DOORS were symbolic for the ancients. They were sculpted sentries that guarded the secrets of the Temples. The Bible speaks of ‘ the gates of Jericho’. Also DOORS are threshholds into new Worlds.
BUTTERFLIES have always been symbolic of rebirth, freedom and the exotic.
The only way I can express my love of Flowers such as Orchids, Tulips, Roses, Irises, Lillies, et al – is to keep on painting them and learning more all the time.
Night Skies, Outer Space, Mandalas, and Planets are a way for me to be spiritually connected.
The RAINFOREST and all the exotic flora, fauna, birds, frogs et al have become increasingly important to me living here in British Columbia, and I am impelled to use these as symbols in my work, as well as what they are in themselves.
